For a glimpse back in time, a memorable adventure, or just a peaceful day, there’s no destination like Waconia. In winter, take a wild trip down one of the longest and steepest sliding hills in the region. On the east edge of town, you’ll find a beautiful regional park including a sandy beach, picnic tables, and recreation area. From the shore, enjoy a sailing regatta, 4th of July fireworks, or windsurfers and kitesurfers skipping across the waves. At Island View, one of the most acclaimed courses in the area, you’ll enjoy great golf, casual dining, and a spectacular view of Lake Waconia. The public is welcome. Lake Waconia Regional Park The second largest lake in the metro area, Lake Waconia is a slice of paradise in Carver County. In summer, the lake comes alive. Sailors, wind surfers, boaters and fishing enthusiasts flock to its clear waters. You can rent a boat and fishing gear at In Towne Marina or enjoy the scenery and terrific dining on the lakeside deck of Lola’s Lakehouse. In winter, the lake is a snow-covered playground. By snowmobile or on cross-country skis, its beauty is breathtaking. Island View Golf Club Just two blocks from the lake, Waconia’s unique shops and small-town hospitality await you. Here, you can shop for the latest fashions, gifts and antiques, go bowling, or see a movie. Have a latte and ice cream, a hamburger and cold beer, or a gourmet dinner and fine wine. Downtown Waconia Lake Waconia The Carver County Historical Society preserves and shares our collective stories through exhibits in its galleries. Admission is free, and walking tour maps are available. People come from miles around to enjoy Lake Waconia—one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the area. Historic Sites Today the remains of Coney Island’s buildings decay silently, but wildlife abounds on this protected habitat area, including egrets and great blue herons. From the 1880s until the 1950s, “Coney Island of the West” was a great tourist destination. A hotel, rental cabins, and summer homes lined the island shores. Local lore suggests that during prohibition, infamous gangsters frequented the island, including Al Capone. Coney Island The Waconia Chamber of Commerce presents Waconia’s annual town festival. Stroll through the car show or arts and crafts fair and adopt a duck at the Rotary duck races. There are 5K and 10K races and a children’s fun run. 3-on-3 basketball, great food and live entertainment round out the fun in City Square Park... but don’t miss the bargains up and down the streets at the sidewalk sales.
