  • 3. African American and Mexican Cowboys <ul><li>There were no African American cowboys in the movies. </li></ul><ul><li>However, there were thousands working on the ranches. </li></ul><ul><li>20% - 25% of all cowboys were African American or Mexican. </li></ul>
  • 4. Famous African American Cowboys <ul><li>Bill Pickett was one of the most famous African American cowboys. </li></ul><ul><li>He invented the sport of bulldogging. </li></ul><ul><li>Bulldogging is better known today as steer wrestling. </li></ul>
  • 5. Bill Pickett <ul><li>His rodeo career lasted 40 years. </li></ul><ul><li>He is the only African American cowboy to be inducted into the National Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. </li></ul><ul><li>The United States Postal Service honored him with a stamp. </li></ul>
